Disability Access Manager | County of Marin

 

Laney Davidson is an accessibility professional with nearly two decades experience in the field. She currently serves as the Disability Access Manager for the County of Marin and is owner and founder of LC Disability Consulting. She is a founding member of the California Network of ADA Coordinators and serves on their steering committee.  

Laney attended the University of San Francisco where she obtained her Master of Public Administration degree. Laney speaks nationally at conferences and events on a range of disability and accessibility topics. She has worked with both public and private sector organizations to support maximizing accessibility to people with disabilities.

Emergency Management and the ADA

Local entities and communities are increasingly planning emergency management and preparedness to handle disasters for the whole community. Emergencies and disasters can be particularly concerning for persons with access and functional needs. Successful outcomes will depend on the inclusiveness of the plans and preparations before the disaster.

This session will focus on key emergency management planning and preparedness strategies and approaches for including people with access and functional needs. The presentation will provide primarily the local level of government’s perspective, emergency manager’s need to interact with their ADA Coordinator, and their interactions with the state and federal level agencies.

1. Review requirements for emergency management that is inclusive of people with disabilities
2. Review results of survey of Emergency Managers about their responsibilities under the ADA
3. Review strategies for an emergency management program that is inclusive of people with disabilities
4. Review resources for supporting inclusion of people with disabilities in emergency management
